WILTON - Alicia Lindgren, a former venture capitalist and Columbia
University business school graduate, filled a vacancy on the Board of
Finance this week.
The seat was previously occupied by Lenore Palmer, who left the board after
moving out of Wilton. The Republican Town Committee recommended Lindgren to
fill the position, for which she will also run in this year's town election.
"I think it's an exciting time to serve in town government because there's
so much on the agenda for the coming year and years," Lindgren said in an
interview, citing the coming renovation of Miller and Driscoll schools, the
proposed renovation of Comstock community center and several public and
private partnerships
"Tax rolls aren't rising as fast as they have been in the past," she said,
"so being able to keep Wilton the fine town that it is within the confines
of a budget is going to represent a challenge for the next few years."
Lindgren and her husband, Doug, moved to Wilton in 1996. She "retired" from
the finance world in 2001 to raise two children and to end her long commutes
to Manhattan.
Since then, Lindgren has filled her schedule with volunteer work. She
currently serves on the Wilton Family YMCA Board of Directors, the local
Parent Teacher Association council and the Friends of Ambler Farm Board. She
also teaches CCD and runs a boy scout and girl scout troop.
"I have to say my volunteer commitments have definitely been challenge,"
Lindgren said, "but it's been great to give back to the community."
Lindgren said she may need to scale back her volunteer work to avoid a
conflict of interest during budget season. Ambler Farm, for example, is a
line item in the town's budget, and her position on the PTA council "might
give an appearance of something that's not right as well," she said. |
