The 40-member Wilton Republican Town Committee was seated this March and hit the ground running.  As a first order of business, outgoing Chairman Michael Kaelin, after giving it serious consideration, decided to step down so he could focus on his expanding legal practice, and welcomed incoming Chairman and former WRTC Outreach Chairman Al Alper to take the helm.  Following a glowing nomination by Chairman Kaelin, and with a vote of confidence from a unanimous Committee, Al took the helm and immediately nominated his long-time friend, and the man who he said was “responsible for getting [him] involved in the Republican Party and Town government”, Michael Rudolph as Vice Chairman.  Crediting Mr. Rudolph for his long service to the Party, his moral and ethical values and his unwavering activism on behalf of Wilton and the WRTC, Chairman Alper went on jokingly “and my wife blames you for all of this”.  With that, Mr. Rudolph, too carried a unanimous vote from the Committee and was seated a Vice Chairman.  The balance of the Board was filled by Mrs. Lianne Acosta-Rua, a long-time Party activist and “someone who can be counted on and relied upon”, as Secretary and Mrs. Libby Bufano, who agreed to continue to serve as Town Committee Treasurer.  Both Lianne and Libby, too carried the Committee’s vote unanimously.

Following the complimenting of the outgoing leadership, and thanking them for the efforts and all they had done to move Wilton and the Party forward, several Committee members themselves gave congratulatory comments to both the outgoing, as well as incoming leadership.  From that, talk moved to the business of politics; Bill Brennan, Wilton’s First Selectman, after lending his personal support for the new leadership, gave a brief review of the status of Town Government and the current Budget; “we’ve looked over every department, line item by line item, and believe we’ll present the Board of Finance a very good, well thought out budget for their consideration”.  Following that, Chairman Alper went on to discuss the upcoming conventions, to be held in May, and asked each member to consider the importance of the positions as well as the individuals who serve.
