Principles In Action
Help Lead Wilton
Voting is the building block that keep us free and allow us to control our destiny; an essential part of our democracy. It is every American’s, natural or legalized, fundamental right to be able to voice their opinion and have his/her voice heard through their elected public officials. By voting, people take a stand and help decide who represents them and how their government works. While this right to vote is inherent in being a U.S. citizen, it means much more than being allowed to vote. For the right to vote requires responsibility.
We are a country borne of vigor, defending our freedoms and enforcing each member’s participation in the process of governance, either directly or through their representative. Tens of millions of our countrymen, our fathers, brothers, sisters, have come before us and laid down their life so that today you can choose who will speak on your behalf; so that tomorrow our children will be afforded that same right. Their sacrifices were and are great, and flippant action, while your right, is irresponsible and devalues that what they have done for us. How small a tribute it is to vote; leave for work 10 minutes early, shorten your lunch break, stop at the polls on the way home or to the store. It is not just your right, but your responsibility to yourself, your family and the generation yet to be heard. It is a testament to those who have and will give of themselves for us.
So stand up and give testimony for those who have made and continue to make it possible, take charge of your life, help shape your future and that of your family and friends. You can find information on voting at:
