Instead of bringing an agenda to his new post on the Board of Education,
James Furnivall plans to sit through his first board meeting, on Sept. 6,
and absorb the board's operations.
"The Board of Ed. has done and continues to do an excellent job," Mr.
Furnivall said in a telephone interview on Tuesday. "I'm very impressed with
how they operate and what they do."
The school board held a special meeting last Thursday to fill the vacancy
created by Robert Garland's death on July 25, and voted unanimously to
appoint Mr. Furnivall in his place. Lisa Bogan was absent from the meeting.
"Jim's got to be something special because he comes to us with the
recommendation of both parties," said Board of Education Chairman Karen
Birck in the meeting in the superintendent's office. "This is a guy who
really cares about education in Wilton."
Mr. Furnivall, who earned his bachelor's degree from Princeton University
and his master's from the University of Pennsylvania, said he feels that he
could handle the job???
"I have a long history of board directors' experience in the corporate
world," Mr. Furnivall said in a phone interview last Tuesday. "I think I
understand how a board of directors works." |
